How to Lock Aadhaar Biometric Data Online

Highlights You can lock your Aadhaar biometric data online This stops usage of your fingerprint for authentication You can authenticate Aadhaar details via OTP too

When you get an Aadhaar card, you also give the government your fingerprint and retinal scan data. This is called biometric data. Your biometric data can be used for Aadhaar verification, which means that (for example) when you submit an Aadhaar card as a proof of identity to get a SIM card, you can use your fingerprint to allow the telecom company to access your identity information. By doing this, it can quickly authenticate the ID, speeding up things like KYC verification.

Aadhaar Payments: What Are They, How Can You Use Them?

However, there have been a couple of cases where people have claimed misuse of Aadhaar biometric authentication. People who haven’t used their Aadhaar card for a while have received an email from UIDAI stating that their data has been accessed via biometric authentication. This is obviously quite alarming.

Beyond Payments: How the Unified Payments Interface Will Evolve

All this can be avoided if you lock your biometric information stored on UIDAI’s servers. This would mean that the biometric data can not be accessed by anyone else – you can unlock it whenever you need to use it for verification, and then lock it again.

Here’s how to lock and unlock your Aadhar UIDAI biometric information:

How to Send Money to Aadhaar Numbers via BHIM App

Highlights NPCI’s BHIM app lets you send money via UPI The money is transferred directly to bank accounts You can now send money via Aadhaar payments

BHIM is an app developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) that allows people to send and receive money using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). The app currently is only available on Android and it just launched a new feature called Aadhaar payments.

How UPI Works – the Apps, Charges, and Everything Else You Should Know

This lets you send money directly to the recipient’s Aadhaar number via the BHIM app. It can be useful if the recipient doesn’t have a virtual payment address (VPA) for UPI, as an alternative to entering their account number and bank’s IFSC. There are some caveats to paying via Aadhaar via the BHIM app.

Aadhaar Payments: What Are They, How Can You Use Them?

First is that the person you are sending money to should have their Aadhaar number linked to a bank account. If that’s not the case, then paying via Aadhaar won’t work. Secondly, BHIM doesn’t show the account holder’s name (to prevent people from misusing the app to surface Aadhaar numbers), so double-check the number carefully before sending money.

How to Download a Copy of Your Aadhaar Card

It is time to link your Aadhaar number with PAN card if you plan to file tax returns on or after July 1. In case you’ve misplaced your Aadhaar card, don’t panic because you can easily download a fresh copy. It needs you to know your Aadhaar number, but you can easily look that up online. The unique 12-digit government identification is not compulsory to have, but it serves as an identity proof on most forms that you’ll fill, and some government agencies also require the Aadhaar these days. It is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India on behalf of the Indian government.

How to Link Aadhaar With PAN Card Online

The good thing about Aadhaar is that unlike some other identity cards, its digital copy, downloaded from the UIDAI website, is as valid as the original card. So whether you’ve misplaced your card and need a new one, or just wanted to get a digital copy of the card to submit with a form online, the official website has you covered.

Enrolling for Aadhaar is free and so is the process to obtain a digital duplicate; just follow the steps below and you’re done.

How to Link Aadhaar to PAN by SMS

    Getting your UID number

To download a copy of the Aadhaar card, you need to know your UID number or your Enrolment ID. If you’ve gotten your Aadhaar already, then it’s generally a good idea to note down the number somewhere. If you’ve misplaced the Aadhaar, then look for the enrolment form to check your Enrolment ID. In case you don’t have either, then you need to look this number up first. Here’s what you need to do:

    Go to the UIDAI website.

Make sure that Aadhaar No (UID) is selected from the two options near the top of the screen.

Type in your full name, as printed on the Aadhaar card.

Type either the email address or phone number that you used to register for Aadhaar.

Enter the characters you see in the image above Enter the Security Code.

    Click Get OTP.

A one-time password will be sent to your email address or phone number, whichever you entered in the form. Enter this password in the form next to Enter OTP.

    Click Verify OTP.

Now you’ll receive your Aadhaar number on via SMS or email.

How to Check Aadhaar Authentication History

Highlights Aadhaar can be used to authenticate your identity This can be done via fingerprint or a one-time password You can easily find out when your Aadhaar was used for this

Aadhaar is a national identity card issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Many Indians now have an Aadhaar card and you can use it to verify your identity while getting a new SIM card, gas connection, or even to make payments. Your Aadhaar data includes biometric information such as a retina scan and fingerprint scans too, so it’s a commonly used method of authentication. Instead of filling up long forms for everything that requires a valid photo ID, you could use your Aadhaar card and authenticate via biometrics or a one-time password sent to your phone. If you’re worried that your Aadhaar data could be misused, you can also lock Aadhaar biometric data online. You can also check when your Aadhaar data was used for authentication. Just follow these steps.

Aadhaar, Mobile Number Linking: How to Link Aadhaar Number and Mobile Number via IVR for SIM Re-Verification

The IVR method to link Aadhaar and mobile number eliminates the need to visit an offline store

Highlights Subscribers need to dial 14546 from their phones They will receive an OTP, which is needed for verification to be complete Corporate customers do not need to link mobile number and Aadhaar

With less than a month to go for the last date to link Aadhaar to mobile number for re-verification, it is high time you link the two as mobile services may be disconnected in April. If linking Aadhaar to mobile number for SIM re-verification is on top of your mind too, then there is a simple way to do it without leaving your home or office. This new method of Aadhaar linking with mobile number just requires users to make a call to a centralised number and enter an OTP. This is a convenient means of linking the two and eliminates the hassle of visiting an offline store and waiting in queues. However, there is still no way to link Aadhaar and mobile number online.

How to link Aadhaar with mobile phone number

If you want to re-verify your phone number by linking it to Aadhaar, the process is rather simple. You just need to keep your Aadhaar number at hand. Whether you are on Airtel, Idea, Jio, and Vodafone or any other operator, you simply need to call the toll-free number 14546 from the phone number. Follow these steps, as directed by the IVR, to complete the re-verification process.

When you call 14546, you will be asked to select whether you are an Indian national or an NRI by selecting the respective option Next, you will have to give consent to link Aadhaar with your phone number by pressing 1 After that, you need to provide your Aadhaar number and press 1 to confirm This step generates the OTP, which you will receive on your mobile phone Now, you need to enter your phone number Here, you are asked to give consent to your operator to pick your name, photo and date of birth from UIDAI data base The IVR now mentions the last four digits of your number to confirm that you have keyed in the right number If the number is correct, you can enter the OTP you received on SMS You must press 1 to complete the Aadhaar-mobile number re-verification process If you hold another phone number, you can link that too by pressing 2 and following the steps provided by the IVR system. Keep your other mobile phone handy as you will receive the OTP on this number.

The OTP you receive for Aadhaar-mobile phone re-verification is valid for 30 minutes, so you can use it even there is some network glitch and the call terminates prematurely. Subscribers who are on corporate plans do not need to need to undergo the re-verification process. Since Jio takes Aadhaar number to activate the SIM card, subscribers do not need to re-verify on the network, a customer care executive told Gadgets 360.

How to Buy a SIM Card in India

In late November, telecom operators had also been directed to set up a website so that subscribers can link Aadhaar and mobile number online. However, no operator has set up such a portal, nor has a central portal been created.

How to Check Aadhaar Card Status Online

Applied for an Aadhaar card but still haven’t received it? You can easily check the status of your application online. All you need is a copy of the acknowledgement slip that you are given after your visit to the enrolment centre. If you have that, then this is an easy process.

An Aadhaar card is an official government-issued identity card for Indians. Many government institutions accept this card as a proof of identity and some require that you produce your Aadhaar card. The card is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on behalf of the government. It’s steadily being linked to a growing number of government functions, and continues to grow in importance, so it’s probably a good idea to get an Aadhaar card, even if you don’t necessarily need one yet.

Follow these steps to check the status of your Aadhaar card application online.

(Also see: How to Submit PAN Card Application Online)

Head to the Aadhaar status page on the UIDAI website.

Check your Aadhaar acknowledgement slip. At the top you will see the 14-digit enrolment number and a 14-digit date and time of enrolment.

Key in these two numbers in the EID and Date/ Time fields respectively.

Type the captcha in the field labelled Enter the Security Code.

    Click Check Status.

This will reveal the status of your Aadhaar enrolment application. This is only for checking the status of a new application. If you have misplaced your card, and want to print out a copy that you can use, then check out how to download a copy of your Aadhaar card.

Aadhaar, PAN Linking: How to Link PAN Card With Aadhaar Card Online as August 31 Deadline Looms

Highlights You can link your Aadhaar and PAN via the e-filing website The last date to link Aadhaar and PAN is August 31 If you do not link the two in time, the tax returns will not be processed

The August 31 deadline to link PAN card with Aadhaar number is here, and you only have a few hours to complete the process. If the two are not linked by the end of the day, your income tax returns will not be processed, says a notification on the Income Tax E-filing website. The last date for PAN card-Aadhaar linking has already been extended once so the government is unlikely to give citizens more time once the deadline ends. Moreover, if the process to link PAN card with Aadhaar is not completed in time, the IT returns filed this year will become void, attracting a penalty of up to Rs. 5,000 and heavy interest can be levied in case of payable taxes. The Aadhaar PAN linking must be done irrespective of whether you provided the acknowledgement number for Aadhaar card, or quoted it in the tax returns form.

If you want to link the two but are not sure how to do it, you can use the e-facility launched by the Income Tax department, which is the easiest way to link the two. In fact, you don’t even need to sign in to the IT website to link your Aadhaar number and PAN card.

How to Link Aadhaar and PAN card by SMS

How to link PAN card with Aadhaar online

If you want to link PAN card to Aadhaar online, head over to the Income Tax e-filing portal and follow the steps below:

On the website, click on the link on the left saying Link Aadhaar. Now, enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number, name as per Aadhaar, and the Captcha, and then click on Link Aadhaar. This should link the PAN and Aadhaar, but if there is any discrepancy in your details, you’ll receive an Aadhaar OTP to confirm the linkage. Enter the OTP and click on Save to continue. You can also link the details after logging in to the income tax website. Log in as you normally would and then click on Profile Settings in the top menu. Next, find Link Aadhaar. Enter your Aadhaar number and click on Save to continue.

This will only work if the details on the PAN and the Aadhaar card match. In case of any discrepancies, you can upload a scan of your PAN card, or register via OTP on your linked mobile number as mentioned above.

However, with heavy traffic expected on the Income Tax E-filing portal, you can instead choose to link Aadhaar, PAN card via SMS also.

That’s all there is to it right now. Did this guide help you to link Aadhaar card and PAN? Let us know via the comments, and check out the rest of our How-to articles.

mAadhaar App to Carry Your Aadhaar, Jio Feature Phone by Intex, and More: Your 360 Daily

Highlights mAadhaar app launched for Android users to carry Aadhaar around Jio and Intex are in talks to manufacture the Jio 4G VoLTE feature phone Reliance Jio aims to sell 20 crore feature phones in 2 years

In a new effort to digitise Aadhaar, the UIDAI has launched a new mAadhaar app on Android, which lets you carry around a digital copy of your Aadhaar card for quick access to your personal details. UIDAI stated in its tweet that the app is currently in beta and that new features will be rolled out in future updates. For now, the mAadhaar app will let you view details like your name, date of birth, gender, address and photograph from your Aadhaar card. It will also let you lock or unlock your biometric data.

The push for linking your Aadhaar number with your PAN card is an effort by the government to weed out duplicate PAN cards and the likes. However, it’s a little unnerving when Aadhaar details are easily leaked onto the Internet, like the latest one where 210 central and state government websites were found to be displaying Aadhaar numbers of beneficiaries, along with their details.According to PP Chaundhary, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, there has been no leakage from UIDAI’s side and they are monitoring the sites to ensure all personal data has been removed. The big question still remains how these details were public knowledge to begin with and that too, on such a wide scale.
